With increasing numbers of New to English arrivals, how do we ensure our schools build an inclusive and consistently accessible curriculum through multiple points of access to an academic British curriculum from 3 to 18? In this session, you will hear from two EAL leads who have answered ( and continue to answer) this question by transforming EAL provision across the five (junior and senior) campuses. Katharine and Deborah will outline their mission at EAL at the British School in The Netherlands and explain how a research driven philosophy has counterbalanced traditional approaches to teaching English as a Foreign language from Key Stage 1 to 4. The workshop will focus on a staged approach to cultural change and practical steps that can be taken to promote inclusion and multilingualism across the whole school.
